It’s the chicken-or-egg dilemma: What came first, queer activism or queer scholarship? Without sexology, there would not be the current understanding of queerness; but without queer activism, there would not be the current knowledge of today’s sexology fields such as gender and queer studies, which in turn influence queer activism and vice versa.

Annika Baumgart and Katharina Kroschel are the authors of the nonfiction book “(un)sichtbar gemacht: Perspektiven auf Aromantik und Asexualität”, lead the activist education project ace_arovolution, and both wrote their master’s theses on asexuality and aromanticism. From this specific position between academia and activism, they ask: What role does scholarship play in activism – and vice versa? How do they influence each other? Who produces what knowledge?

The event lasts about 2 hours, with a short break between the talk and the following discussion round. The talk will be held in spoken German.
